Bryant, Tucker lead Golden Bears to 89-88 victory over Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- On the back of big performances from Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) and Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson), the Kutztown University men's basketball team (5-8, 5-3 PSAC) came back to defeat Millersville (7-7, 4-4 PSAC) 89-88 at the Pucillo Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

The Golden Bears and Marauders battled back and forth all game, trading the lead 10 times. The duo of Bryant and Tucker both netted 27 points in the victory, with Tucker registering another double-double with 14 rebounds. Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) was the only other Golden Bear in double digits with 12 points to go along with a team-high seven assists.

It was a tale of two halves for KU. The Golden Bears went 37.5% from the floor in the first half, including a 2-for-10 mark from three-point range. The Mauraders found scoring from all parts of their rotation, outsourcing the Golden Bears 19-6 with points off the bench in the first half. Despite that, KU entered the half only trailing 38-33.

Both teams picked up the offensive pace in the second frame. The Golden Bears shot nearly 70% from the floor, while Millersville shot 55%. Despite being outscored 40-13 in bench points over the whole game, the performances of Bryant and Tucker kept KU in the game.

With under five minutes left in the game, the Golden Bears were able to go on a little run and start to pull away. With 1:36 left, KU jumped out an 85-78 lead, its largest of the whole contest. Despite a comeback attempt from Millersville, the Golden Bears were able to hold on for the 89-88 victory.

The Golden Bears capture their first PSAC East and fifth conference win of the season, just one shy of last season's mark in conference play. KU is back on the floor this Saturday, Jan. 14 against Lock Haven. That game at Keystone Arena will tip off at 3 p.m.
