Volleyball's season-high win streak comes to an end at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- The Kutztown University women's volleyball team had its season-high three-match win streak snapped Thursday night as it dropped a non-conference match in straight sets at Georgian Court by scores of 24-26, 23-25 and 24-26.

The Golden Bears (4-4 overall) were in every set and held late leads in the final two sets, but were unable to close it out. The Lions (3-6) countered and answered when they needed to each time to finish off the sweep.

Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) led KU in kills (14) and aces (3) and was one dig short of the team lead with seven. Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) finished with 13 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) tallied 19 assists, while Alandra Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) had 12. Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) contributed eight digs. Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) and Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) both had two blocks.

Neither set had a team lead of more than four points as the two teams went back-and-forth most of the night.

The Maroon and Gold fell behind 3-0 in the opening set but then there were 10 different ties the rest of the way, including one at 24-24. A KU service error and attack error gave Georgian Court the opener. Once again in set two, Kutztown found itself trailing early at 5-1, but then went ahead late at 21-20. The Lions, however, scored five of the final seven points in winning the second. The Golden Bears were on the upswing in the third and took the opening lead by as many as four (8-4) and pushed it to 20-17 late. They had set point (24-23) thanks to an attack error by the Lions, but three straight kills by Georgian Court allowed it to walk off the court with a victory.

Kutztown is back at home this Saturday, Sept. 10, for another non-conference match against Caldwell at 4:30 p.m., inside Keystone Arena.
