Women's Volleyball rolls over Caldwell in straight sets

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Kutztown University women's volleyball team (5-4) rolled over Caldwell (2-5) in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-13 Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bear's outside hitters had a field day in the match. Senior Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) lead the way with 17 kills, closely followed by freshman Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) who had 15 kills. On the defensive side of the ball, Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) led the way with 19 digs while Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) also registered 16 digs in the match. Mel Eglinton (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) finished with a team-high three blocks. 

The first set was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading points till it was 12-11 in favor of KU. The Marron and Gold then went on a run, scoring nine straight points to make it 21-11 in the set. From there, KU was able to close out the set for the 1-0 advantage in the match.

The second set was much closer, with the teams trading points and going on little runs of their own. The score was 23-22 in favor of KU before Doss took over. The senior earned two kills in the final three points of the set to give the Golden Bears the 25-23 win and the 2-0 advantage in the match. 

KU started the final set hot, jumping out to a quick 11-4 advantage. Caldwell wasn't able to recover from there. A plethora of Golden Bears got involved offensively, eventually closing out the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

The Golden Bears get back on track after dropping the previous match at Georgian Court. KU is now winners of four of their last five matches after a 1-3 start to the campaign.

KU is back in action quickly, with a trip to Philadelphia to play Chestnut Hill on Monday, Sept. 12. That match will start at 7 p.m. The Golden Bears won't return home till the match against Millersville on Oct. 7.
