Volleyball defeats Lock Haven in straight sets

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's volleyball team bounced back from a straight set loss at Shepherd in its last match and flipped the script in its latest match, sweeping Lock Haven by scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-17 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Divisional match Friday night.

The Golden Bears (8-7 overall, 2-2 PSAC) now sit at .500 in the conference standings. They played their fourth straight PSAC match away from Keystone Arena.

Kutztown was never really threatened all night in making quick work of the Bald Eagles.

Freshman Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) led the KU offense with 12 kills and added six digs, two aces and one block. She was the lone Golden Bear in double figures in kills. Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) recorded seven kills, four digs and a career-high five aces. Her fifth ace of the night was the match winner in the final set. Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) tallied five kills and a season-high 12 digs. Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen), Julia Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) each had two kills for KU. Morrow also contributed 23 assists and seven digs. Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) finished with 14 digs and Taylor Malone (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) added six.

Kutztown remains on the road and will take on Bloomsburg in PSAC East action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m.
