PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's volleyball has found its way the last four days. After losing three-of-four to open the 2022 season, KU has won three matches in-a-row, taking both on Saturday afternoon, first against host Holy Family and the second over Southern Connecticut State.
The Golden Bears (4-3 overall) defeated the Tigers in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16, and followed that up with a come-from-behind 3-1 match victory over the Owls with scores of 14-25, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-21.
Freshman
Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) led the way offensively for the Maroon and Gold. She had her best match to date, tallying a season-high 23 kills against Southern Connecticut State and finished with 38 on the day, 15 coming in the opening match.
Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) combined for 27 kills and
Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) had seven total, along with five blocks. Graduate student libero,
Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic), also had a career day. She compiled a career-best 24 digs in the nightcap after earning 15 digs in the opener.
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) finished the day with 37 assists, while
Alandra Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) contributed 25.
Kutztown had to hold on in the first set against Holy Family, but did not have much trouble in dispatching of the Tigers for the next two. Facing the Owls, however, the Golden Bears fell behind from the start, losing the first set 25-14, but regrouped and won the next three, including a third set that went into extra points.
Kutztown will remain on the road for a non-conference match at Georgian Court on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., looking to match its longest win streak since the 2014 season.
