Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The Kutztown University volleyball team won the first two sets of its Friday night's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division opening match, but East Stroudsburg stormed back to take the next three on its home court, winning the match by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 9-15.
The Golden Bears (6-5 overall, 0-1 PSAC), who were looking to win their opening conference match for the first time since 2013, had a two-match win streak snapped.
Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) tallied a career-high 24 kills to lead the KU offense, while adding a career-best 20 digs defensively.
Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) did her best preventing Warriors (7-7, 1-0) points, finishing with a career-high 32 digs.
Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) also filled the stat sheet with 17 kills and a season-high 18 digs.
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) recorded a season-high 47 assists and in her return to East Stroudsburg after transferring from there this season,
Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) had nine kills.
Kutztown broke a 15-15 tie in set one and scored 10 of the next 14 points to take the opener. In the second set, KU climbed back from down 21-17 and scored six straight points on its way to the victory. The Warriors, however, found their groove in set three and got into the win column in set three. The Maroon and Gold held a seven point lead (19-12) in the fourth set, but ESU rallied and notched 13 unanswered on route to the win. The Warriors kept their momentum going into the fifth set and walked off the Koehler Fieldhouse court victors.
Kutztown has a quick turnaround and plays at Jefferson in a non-conference match tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m.
