KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team scored a goal in each quarter from four different players as KU won its third straight game to open up the 2022 regular season, winning 4-1 over Frostburg State Saturday night at Andre Reed Stadium in non-conference action.
Â
It was the third win in-a-row for the Golden Bears (3-0 overall), who opened their season with two wins on back-to-back days last weekend over Saint Michael's (10-0) and Southern Connecticut State (7-0).
Â
The junior class gave KU its first three goals of the game as
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson),
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and
Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) all found the back of the cage in the first, second and third quarters, respectively. Graduate student and captain,
Olivia Blasone (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) capped the scoring with a goal in the fourth quarter as Kutztown jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 12:40 left to play. It was the first goal of the season for both Gatehouse and Buchman, the second for Blasone and the third for Sierer, who is one goal shy of the team-lead of four by graduate student and captain
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg). Dusman assisted on Buchman's second quarter goal. Buchman assisted on Blasone's goal, while
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) passed off to Sierer for her tally.
Â
Kutztown led the Bobcats (3-2) in shots (18-2) and penalty corners (25-3).
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), who is now 3-0 on the season in cage, was forced into action for the first time this season, finishing with one save, her first of the year. Frostburg State scored a late goal with 3:17 remaining, but it was too little too late as the KU defense was stout all evening.
Â
Kutztown rounds out its homestand with a game next Wednesday night, Sept. 14, against Adelphi at 7 p.m., at Andre Reed Stadium.
