ATLANTA – The Kutztown University women's basketball team put forth a 3.768 team grade point average (GPA) during the 2021-22 academic year, which ranked ninth among all NCAA Division II schools when the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) released its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls Wednesday morning.
Â
Janet Malouf's squad won a program record 26 games (26-7) along with its second PSAC East title in the last three seasons. The Golden Bears also advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship tournament for the first time since 1996.
Â
Furthering Kutztown's prowess in the classroom, 13 women's basketball student-athletes were recently named 2021-22 PSAC Scholar-Athletes.
Â
The Golden Bears received special mention from the WBCA during the 2020-21 season when they had the highest team GPA in Division II, but didn't qualify for the Top 25 rankings due to having their season canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2021-22 season is the 27th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
