KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown softball had its nine-game win streak come to an end Thursday afternoon as a seven-run, fourth inning by second-seeded Seton Hill University pushed the Griffins to a 7-0 victory over top-seeded KU in game one of a best-of-three Super Regional series at North Campus Field.

The Golden Bears (40-14 overall) entered Thursday winners of nine straight games, including all four in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament and three in-a-row last weekend in the Atlantic Regional tournament. Thursday marked just the first defeat in the postseason this year for the Maroon and Gold.

The Griffins (40-10), also winners of all three regional games last weekend, outhit the Maroon and Gold 10-6, including a six-hit, top of the fourth where they brought 11 batters to the plate and plated seven runs.

Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, Morgan Ryan, a Division I transfer from the University of Notre Dame, was dominant. She threw a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and struck out five KU batters.

Hannah Auvil (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) led the KU offense with two hits.
Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan),
Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland),
Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) and
Kristin Geesey (Bainbridge, Pa./Elizabethtown) had the other four hits for KU.

Game two between the teams will be tomorrow, Friday, May 20, at 1 p.m. If KU wins, a deciding game three will be scheduled for 3:30 p.m., both from North Campus Field.
