KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Bridget Bailey (Norwood, Pa./Interboro),
Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) and
Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) earned consensus All-Atlantic Region honors, highlighting the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Kutztown University softball team, announced late last week.
Â
Softball annually has two All-Region teams – one selected by coaches that is sponsored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and a team selected by sports information directors that is sponsored by the D2CCA. Bailey and Hughes were named to both All-Region first teams, while Ostaszewski was tabbed to both second teams.
Â
Also last week, the trio were voted to the All-PSAC East Division First Team, including a Pitcher of the Year honor for Bailey. Bailey, who was the 2019 PSAC Freshman of the Year, received her first pitcher of the year in her career and is a three-time All-PSAC performer. Ostaszewski and Hughes all earned their second All-PSAC honor.
Â
It is Bailey's second straight year earning consensus All-Atlantic Region recognition. Bailey has been the anchor of the Maroon and Gold rotation this season. She is 22-5 with a 1.96 earned run average in 182.1 innings, leading the PSAC in victories and innings pitched, while ranking third with 165 strikeouts. Bailey is fifth in program history with 56 career wins and is second in career strikeouts with 450.
Â
Hughes was named to the D2CCA Second Team last year. She has once again brought power to the lineup in 2022. Last weekend, Hughes broke a 0-0 deadlock with a two-run home run to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan and advance KU to this week's NCAA Super Regional. She has a .331 average with 45 hits and leads the team with 11 HRs, tied for third in the PSAC. Hughes also added 31 RBIs and 34 runs scored in 51 games, starting in 48. She also ranks in the top-10 in the conference in slugging percentage (.625) and OPS (1.067).
Â
It is the first All-Region accolade for Ostaszewski. Ostaszewski, the PSAC tournament MVP, has had a career-best season as a senior. Starting all 53 games this year, she leads KU in hitting with a .366 average and 64 hits, while adding 44 runs scored and 41 RBIs, all top-10 marks in the PSAC.
Â
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Atlantic Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month. The Atlantic Region consists of schools from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the PSAC, along with independents Bluefield State and Salem.
