KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown had its modest three-match winning streak snapped in its season finale, falling to visiting Davis & Elkins 7-0 in non-conference action Saturday at the Keystone Courts.
The loss left the Golden Bears with a final overall record of 5-6, while the Senators improved to 5-6.
KU's top two doubles teams each won three games off their D&E opponents, as
Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) and
Neal Devkaran (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) represented the Maroon and Gold at No. 1 and
Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) and
Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) competed at No. 2.
Singles was hard-fought at the top of the lineup where No. 3 Arizpe went three sets in a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 loss to Anthony Martins and No. 2 Devkaran forced his opening set against Taiki Umeda to a tiebreaker in a 7-6 (4), 7-5 setback.
Barcelo took four games off Viktor Yanev in the first set of their No. 1 singles match, but fell 6-4, 6-0. No. 4 Gincauskas also won four games in a 6-1, 6-3 loss against Andrew Shand and
Ethan Moyer (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) did the same in a 6-4, 6-0 defeat against Kyle Hawthorne at No. 5.
