WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's tennis team was defeated by West Chester, 7-0, in its PSAC East opener Saturday afternoon on the Golden Rams' South Campus Courts.
West Chester was in control from start to finish, claiming first and second doubles by matching 6-1 scores and wrapping up the sweep with a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
The Golden Rams (2-5, 1-0 PSAC East) went on to win five of the six singles flights in straight sets.
Kutztown's (0-6, 0-1 PSAC East) Clauda Makarski evened her second singles match against Davica Massaro at a set apiece by answering Massaro's 6-4 opening set win with a 6-4 decision of her own in the second. With the match already secure for the Golden Rams, the two battled for the point in a super tiebreaker, but Massaro came out on top 10-7.
A pair of conference road matches lie ahead for the Golden Bears this week. They'll be at Shippensburg Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start, before heading south to Millersville Saturday.
