KUTZTOWN, Pa – Zach Male (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) was on point at North Campus Field for the second straight Friday, firing a three-hit shutout and Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) popped a first inning home run as the Kutztown University baseball team broke through with its first PSAC East win of the season, 1-0, over Lock Haven.
 
Male outdueled Bald Eagles' starter David Keller, who allowed only four hits in seven frames, for the first nine-inning shutout of his career --and second shutout all-time. The sophomore from Royersford did not surrender an extra-base hit while striking out eight and walking one.
 
Kutztown (5-12, 1-3 PSAC East) forced Jake Mastillo into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play in the top of the first and didn't take long to turn that momentum into a run.
 
Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) launched Keller's full count offering just beyond the left field fence for his team-leading third home run of the year and the only run of the game.

Kutztown threatened to score again in the bottom of the eighth, putting runners at second and third with one out following a Mike Kelly (Schwenksville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) leadoff single, Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) walk and Mitchell Peers (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) sacrifice bunt. Bald Eagle (6-11, 0-4 PSAC East) reliever Garrett Starr would get out of the jam by inducing a fly out and pop out.
 
Male breezed through the Lock Haven lineup in the top of the ninth, retiring the side in order to cap his shutout in an efficient 106 pitches.
 
Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Ethan Martini (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge), and Zach Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) joined Kelly and Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) in the hit column for Kutztown, which got all five of its hits from different players. Gavin Moretski's (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) homer was the only extra-base hit in the game.
 
With rain in the forecast for Saturday, the two teams will look to close out the series with a doubleheader at Lock Haven on Sunday, March 20, beginning at noon.
