No. 21 Golden Bears upset on the road by Millersville 63-60

MILLERSVILLE, Pa – The 21st-ranked Kutztown University women's basketball team was upset by Millersville on the road in a close 63-60 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup Wednesday evening.

Despite the Maroon and Gold jumping out to a fast start in the first quarter, the Marauders were able to claw back to tie it up before half time. The Golden Bears found themselves having a hard time maintaining possession of the ball throughout the game, doubling Millersville's turnovers in the competition.

The Golden Bear starters saw success on the offensive side of the ball, four of the five scoring double digit points in the matchup. Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) led the effort, both finishing the game with 14 points, followed by Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) with 13 and Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) adding 10 points of her own.

Kutztown's roster has been dealing with some injuries as of late, leaving it with a shortened bench, only finding three points coming off the bench. The Marauders bench had some success against the Golden Bears, scoring 24 combined points.

The Maroon and Gold led by 10 points after their best offensive quarter of the game shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor. Millersville took over the momentum in the second quarter, holding the Golden Bears to only six points in the quarter and closing the ten-point gap to head to half all tied up.

Holding onto the momentum, Millersville took their first lead of the competition 26 seconds into the third quarter, going on a 12-2 run to begin the third quarter. Kutztown trailed by five heading into the final quarter of play. The Golden Bears were able to draw within one point of the lead on two separate occasions, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Kutztown will be back on the road Saturday, Feb. 12, as it heads to W. Va., to take on Shepherd University at 1:00 p.m.
