KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Much like every week during the 2021-22 season, Kutztown University women's basketball junior forward
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) used her defensive prowess in two KU victories last week to earn this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
Â
Remolde received the recognition for the seventh time this year, in the final week of the award.
Â
In two games last week, Remolde combined for 12 points, 16 rebounds, seven blocks and three steals. In a win over second-place Bloomsburg last Wednesday, Feb 23, Remolde tallied six points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 33 minutes, helping hold the Huskies to just 43 points. In a victory at Shippensburg on Saturday, Remolde recorded six points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals and played all 40 minutes.
Â
The Golden Bears finished the regular season at 25-5 overall and 18-3 in the PSAC.
Â
Remolde has a conference-leading 78 blocks on the season and is tied for the league lead with 2.6 blocks per game. She's also fifth in total rebounds (239), 11th in rebounds per game (8.0) and tied for 12th with 51 steals.
Â
Accounting for half of this season's 14 weekly awards, Monday's honor was Remolde's fourth PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week award in the last five weeks and league-leading seventh overall. She was previously recognized on Dec. 20, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, and Feb. 21.
Â
Kutztown, which clinched its second PSAC East title in the last three seasons and the top seed in the division in this week's PSAC Tournament, will take on the winner of Shippensburg and Lock Haven in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m., at Keystone Arena.
