GREENSBURG, Pa. – Kutztown women's basketball sank a season-best 13 three-pointers, including six in the third quarter when it broke open the game as KU went into the Christmas break on a high note, winning 67-55 at Seton Hill Monday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game at the McKenna Center.
The Golden Bears (5-5 overall, 3-1 PSAC) evened up their record and won their third conference game in the first four, while also winning four of the last five games overall, all in the month of December.
Kutztown led from start to finish in this one. With just a three-point lead (26-23), 1:24 into the third quarter, KU connected on five 3-pointers in its next seven offensive possessions, scoring 15 of the game's next 18 points, to strengthen its advantage to 41-26 with 4:12 left in the third. The Maroon and Gold kept their lead at double-digits for the remainder of the game.
Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood), who made a career-high six 3-pointers out of eight attempts, led the KU offense with a season-high 18 points. That is the senior's highest scoring output since she recorded a career-best 24 points on Jan. 8, 2020, at Millersville. She led a trio of Golden Bears that notched double-figures in scoring as
Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) joined the party with 14 and 12 points, respectively, both hitting two 3-pointers. Remolde also added eight rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals.
Kutztown shot 50% (13-for-26) from beyond the arc and also held the Griffins (9-4, 2-2) to just 30.4% (7-for-23), including just one in each of the first three quarters. KU's defense also took advantage of the Seton Hill turnovers it forced, scoring 16 points off the errors by the Griffins.
Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and
Bella Arcuri (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) both tallied five points for the Maroon and Gold.
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) and
Shannon Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) each netted four points, with the former also grabbing four boards.
Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and
Skyler West (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) finished with two points apiece and
