Bryant nets career-high, Butler eclipses 1,000 career points to highlight road victory over Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa.Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) led a quintet of scorers in double figures and Wesley Butler (Reading, Pa./Reading) reached the career 1,000-point milestone as Kutztown Men's Basketball led for all but 3:53 of a 91-77 win against Seton Hill in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game Monday afternoon at the McKenna Center.
 
Bryant scored a career-high 29 points, shooting 78.6% (11-for-14) from the floor in 38 minutes to pace the Golden Bear (3-6 overall, 3-1 PSAC) offense and give his team their third conference victory in their first four PSAC games to begin the 2022-23 regular season and will go into the Christmas break with some positive momentum. The sophomore guard was also 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.
 
Kutztown had a hot shooting day from the floor. KU shot 51.7% (30-for-58) overall and went 70.6% (12-for-17) from 3-point land, both season-highs.
 
Four-of-five starters finished in double figures in scoring and the fifth, Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn), ended just one point shy with nine. He also was one point shy of a double-double as the senior guard dished out a career-best 10 assists. Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) tallied 18 points and six rebounds. Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa./Hazleton) had his second double-double this season, totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds, while hitting both of his 3-point attempts. Butler recorded 10 points and Kameron Roberts (Townsend, Del./Middletown) was the fifth Golden Bear in double figures with 13 points, going 5-for-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from three.
 
The Griffins (6-4, 1-3) opened the game by scoring five of the first seven points in the first 1:20. But KU went on a 14-0 run over the next 4:51 to take a 16-5 lead, following a Bryant 3-pointer. Kutztown cruised in the first half as it extended its lead to as many as 27 (49-22) with 2:52 left in the first half and went into halftime ahead 52-31.
 
Seton Hill made a run and got back into the game in the second half, pulling to within as close as five points twice, the latter at 67-62 with 7:56 remaining. But the Golden Bears scored five in-a-row to push their lead back to double digits and kept it as high as seven the rest of the way.
 
Kyle Whippen (Arlington,Va./Westfield) had three rebounds and an assist in the victory.
 
Kutztown will have an 11-day break before its next game when it hosts California (Pa.) on Friday, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m., at Keystone Arena.
