Women’s basketball, ranked 23rd in the preseason D2SIDA poll, set for two preseason exhibitions against DI opponents

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Fresh off seeing its named at 23 in the preseason D2SIDA national poll, the Kutztown University women's basketball team is set to begin its preseason slate this week with games against Division I opponents Fordham and UConn.

The defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division champions will first travel to the Bronx on Thursday, Nov. 3 to take on the Fordham Rams at 6 p.m. They will then travel to Hartford, C.T. to take on the 11-time national champions University of Connecticut Huskies at the XL Center at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6. It's the first time KU will face either of these opponents.

Fordham finished the 2021-22 season with an 18-11 record, including an 8-6 mark in Atlantic 10 conference play. The Rams made a run to the A10 tournament quarterfinals before falling to Massachusetts 66-63. They also qualified for the Women's NIT, but were eliminated by Bucknell in the first round. The Rams were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the coaches poll and had senior guard Anna DeWolfe be selected to the preseason All-Conference First Team.

The UConn Huskies need no introduction, as they are one of the most historic programs in the history of college athletics. Head coach Geno Auriemma, an alum of fellow PSAC school West Chester, has led the Huskies to 11 national championships, 14 consecutive Final Fours, and over 50 regular season and conference tournament championships. UConn finished the 2021-22 season 30-6, with a 16-1 mark in conference play. They captured the Big East championship but ultimately fell to South Carolina in the National Championship game.

The Golden Bears enter the 2022-23 season as the favorite to repeat as PSAC East champions. Reigning PSAC East coach of the year Janet Malouf is looking to build upon a historic 2021-22 campaign that saw KU finish 26-7, a school record, and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.

KU will lean upon All-PSAC East Second Teamer Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and PSAC East Rookie of the Year Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) to help lead the Golden Bears to greater heights than the previous season.

Information on how to follow along with the action will be located below. No stream will be available for the contest against Fordham.

KU will kick off the regular season against Bowie State on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. as a part of the CIAA/PSAC Challenge at Shippensburg.
