PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Kutztown women's basketball was outscored 19-9 in the first quarter and was unable to bounce back, falling 70-53 in a non-conference game at Jefferson University Saturday afternoon.
Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the Golden Bears (1-3 overall) with 16 points.
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) also finished in double figures in scoring 11 points, while adding five rebounds.
The Rams (4-0) remained undefeated on the season. They scored the game's first four points and six of the first eight in the opening 3:30, holding a 19-9 advantage after one quarter of play. KU pulled to within as close as six (33-27) in the second quarter and found itself behind 37-29 at halftime.
Jefferson kept a double-digit lead for the majority of the third and fourth quarters shooting 48% from the floor overall in that second half.
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) finished with eight points, three rebounds and four assists.
Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) recorded seven points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) had six points and three rebounds and
Noelle Baxter (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) rounded out the scoring for KU with five points.
After the first four games on the road to start the 2022-23 season, Kutztown will make its home debut in its next game on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it hosts Chestnut Hill at 5:30 p.m., from Keystone Arena.
