LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Kutztown University football was celebrated for another outstanding season Wednesday afternoon when a school-record 15 student-athletes were named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division First or Second Teams.
Â
Kutztown's 15 selections are the second most in the PSAC and one more than the previous record of 14 set back in 2019. The Golden Bears have produced 96 all-conference honorees in eight seasons under current head coach
Jim Clements.
Â
Earning All-PSAC East First Team honors were running back
Darryl Davis-McNeil (Roslyn, Pa./Abington), offensive tackle
Devin Hannan (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon), offensive guard
Parker Zimerofsky (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), center
Albert Glasgow (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood), wide receiver
Jerome Kapp (Barto, Pa./Boyertown), defensive end
Kyle Sapp (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), linebacker
Amani Justice (Salem, N.J./Salem) and safety
CJ Brown (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville). Appearing on the Second Team are quarterback
Donny Blaine (Jefferson Township, Pa./North Pocono), running back
Jordan Davis (Franklin, N.J./Saint Joseph Metuchen), offensive tackle
Ryan Schernecke (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland), defensive tackle
Tom Pellegrino (Hackettstown, N.J./West Morris Central), linebacker
Tyler Whary (Hereford, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), cornerback
Antaun Lloyd (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and punter
Nathan Millard (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone).
Â
Hannan, Glasgow, Kapp, Justice, Davis-McNeil, Whary and Lloyd are all multi-year all-conference selections.
Â
Davis-McNeil, a redshirt senior, enjoyed his best season as a Golden Bear by rushing 194 times for 1,013 yards and 13 touchdowns –all career-highs. The Roslyn, Pa., native also caught 11 passes for 107 yards out of the backfield. Davis-McNeil had four 100-yard rushing games and exceeded 90 yards in three other contests. He became just the sixth player in program history to rush for four touchdowns or more in a game, Sept. 17, at Mercyhurst and gained a career-high 147 yards in a win over Lock Haven, Oct. 22. Davis-McNeil's 13 TD runs are tied for sixth most in a season at KU, his 1,013 rushing yards rank 10th and his 21 career TD runs are ninth most all-time.
Â
Glasgow, Hannan and Zimerofsky anchored an offensive line that paved the way for the PSAC East's third-highest scoring offense at 24.8 points per game (seventh overall in the PSAC). Glasgow, a redshirt senior from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., and Hannan, a redshirt junior from Belle Vernon, Pa., were all-conference and all-region picks a year ago. Zimerofsky, a redshirt junior and native of Pottsville, Pa., is a first-time all-league selection. The trio also helped KU rank fourth in the PSAC in rushing (164.7 ypg) and allow the fifth-fewest sacks in the conference (1.45).
Â
Kapp, a native Berks Countian from Barto, Pa., continued his ascent up Kutztown's all-time receiving charts with another fantastic season. He set career bests across the board with 47 catches for 916 yards and nine TDs, and now ranks sixth in receiving yards and tied for ninth in TD catches on KU's single season lists. Kapp topped 100 yards receiving four times, including a career-best 170-yard, two-TD performance against No. 5 Shepherd, Sept. 24. He also finished the year in style with eight catches for 155 yards and the game-winning TD at No. 9 Slippery Rock, Nov. 12. In three seasons with the Maroon and Gold, Kapp caught 122 passes for 2,190 yards and 22 TDs. He ranks third all-time in receiving yards and tied for fourth in receiving TDs at the school.
Â
Brown is an all-conference member for the first time in his career and had a breakout season, earning first-team honors. He had career-highs of 44 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss (TFL), five passes defended and three forced fumbles as a cornerback. Brown also came away with his first interception of his career in the victory over Bloomsburg on Oct. 8.
Â
Justice was named All-PSAC East First Team for the second time in as many seasons. The linebacker from Salem, N.J., led the team with 70 tackles and 7.0 TFL, while coming up with two sacks. Justice also had a forced fumble and two quarterback hurries.
Â
Sapp earned his first conference recognition of his career this season. The defensive end from Westhampton, N.J., finished with 29 tackles, 6.5 TFL and three sacks. The TFLs ranked second on KU. Sapp also had a forced fumble and two pass breakups this season.
Â
In his first season as the starting signal-caller, Blaine collected All-PSAC Second Team honors behind gradual improvement throughout the year. He threw multiple TD passes in 6-of-11 games and finished the year 138-of-244 for 1,920 yards and 15 TDs. Blaine was only intercepted three times in Kutztown's final 10 games and went six straight games without a pick between Oct. 1-Nov. 5.
Â
Davis backed up a solid 2021 with similar numbers this fall. The third-year back from Franklin, N.J., produced career-highs of 173 carries, 668 yards and four touchdowns, while teaming with Davis-McNeil to lead the Golden Bears' multi-prong rushing attack.
Â
Schernecke, a sophomore from Hatboro, Pa., quickly earned the trust of the coaching staff when he drew into eight games as a freshman on last year's PSAC championship team. This year, he was the starting left tackle on KU's accomplished offensive line. Like Glasgow, Hannan and Zimerofsky, Schernecke was integral in the Bears featuring the PSAC East's third-highest scoring offense and fourth-best run game.
Â
In his first season in Maroon and Gold after transferring from Bloomsburg, Pellegrino was an integral part of the defensive line. He finished with 30 tackles, was second on KU with 4.0 tackles for loss and led the team with four sacks.
Â
Whary is now a two-time All-PSAC East Second Teamer as a middle linebacker. The Hereford native ranked second on KU with 56 tackles, had 5.0 TFL and led KU with four sacks. Whary also had a team-leading five quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles.
Â
Lloyd is also a two-time All-PSAC East Second Teamer as defensive back. The Ambler native finished with 28 tackles and led KU with two interceptions and three pass breakups.
Â
Millard is the second straight punter to earn All-PSAC East accolades for KU. The Birdsboro native had his hand and right foot in not only punting, but also kickoff duties, while going 3-for-3 on extra points. His 40.0 yards per punt ranked third in the PSAC.
