FROSTBURG, Md. –
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) wasted little time in slotting home her third goal of the season, and it was an important one. The junior's tally gave fourth-ranked Kutztown a much-needed, 3-2 victory over Lindenwood in overtime Monday afternoon in a non-conference game played at Frostburg State.
Â
The win snaps a season-long, two-game losing skid for the Golden Bears (7-2 overall), who were playing in their second straight overtime contest and second in three days, falling at No. 1 West Chester 4-3 last Saturday, Oct. 1.
Â
Just 0:50 into the overtime period, Buchman fired home a rebound following a shot by
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) that was initially saved by Kyla Cooke. Buchman was right in front of cage to send back home the rebound and allow her team to celebrate.
Â
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tallied her team-leading eighth goal on the year that rose above Cooke and right past her stick with 7:30 left in regulation to tie the score at 2-2. The graduate student is tied for second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in goals scored and is two points shy of 100 for her career. KU scored the game's opening goal off the stick of
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) two minutes into the second quarter. But the Lions (5-4) answered with back-to-back goals 5:18 apart from each other. The first came in the second quarter from Mia Simpson and the second by Anna Clem to put Lindenwood ahead with 12:42 left in the third.
Â
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with two saves in cage.
Â
Kutztown has its conference home opener this Saturday, Oct. 8, when it welcomes Mansfield to town for a 6 p.m., game at Andre Reed Stadium, the first time KU is back on campus since Sept. 14. The Mounties got the better of the Maroon and Gold in their last game, winning 2-0 in a non-conference game back on Sept. 28.
