WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball was a point away, three different times, of defeating West Chester for the second time this season, but the Golden Rams stormed back to take the thrilling, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division match 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Hollinger Fieldhouse. Scores of the match were 25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 18-25, 16-18.
Â
The Golden Bears (12-11 overall, 6-6 PSAC), coming off a three-set sweep the night before at Millersville, was looking for an important sweep of the weekend on the road in East matches. Entering the day, KU was in third in the divisional standings, just behind West Chester. After Saturday, KU sits in a tie for fourth with Millersville and East Stroudsburg, two teams it split its two regular season matches with. Four teams out of the East earn a spot in the PSAC Tournament.
Â
Kutztown found itself ahead 14-11 in the fifth set, needing one point. West Chester, however, scored four straight points to go ahead. KU would tie it at 15-15, and after a point from each team in back-to-back rallies, the Golden Rams put a string of two consecutive points together to take the match.
Â
KU won the opener and the third set in rather convincing fashion. In set two, the Maroon and Gold rallied from down 24-20 to pull within one point, but West Chester received a kill from Hailey Lewis to tie up the match at 1-1. WCU went up 7-0 to start set four and never looked back from there.
Â
Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) finished with a match-high 15 kills and added five digs and three blocks.
Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was not far behind, recording 13 kills, nine digs and six service aces.
Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) tallied 12 kills and career-highs of 15 digs and six blocks.
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) contributed 44 assists, 17 digs, three blocks and four kills. She now climbed into sixth all-time in program history in career assists with 1,967.
Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) had 22 digs, six assists and two service aces.
Â
Kutztown's last two regular season games are next weekend. KU hosts Lock Haven next Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., followed by a match vs. Bloomsburg on senior day at 2 p.m.
