Volleyball takes care of Millersville in straight sets to earn key PSAC East Division win

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball returned the favor from just three weeks prior and swept Millersville 3-0 on Friday night to pick up an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division victory on the road.

The win snaps a two-match losing streak for the Golden Bears (12-10 overall, 6-5 PSAC), and, as it stands Friday, puts KU into the fourth and final playoff berth in the East, sitting in fourth in a tie with East Stroudsburg, which split the two matches they played against each other this season.

Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) and Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) both finished with double figures in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) had 22 assists and now moves into sole possession of seventh on the all-time career assist leaderboard in program history. Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) led the defensive effort with 14 digs and Julia Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) led KU with four blocks, followed by three from Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen).

Kutztown trailed 7-5 in the opening set but went on a 7-0 run to jump ahead. KU had to go on another run late when it was ahead 19-16 and extended it to 23-16 and took the opener. The Maroon and Gold led from the first point on in set two. KU trailed for the majority to start the third set, but when it finally took its first lead at 12-11, it continued to push forward and held on until the end to secure the match victory.

Kutztown has another important match tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 29, as it takes on West Chester at 2 p.m., on the road. The Golden Rams (19-8, 7-4) are one game ahead of KU, but the Maroon and Gold took the first match of the year.
