KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Graduate student midfielder
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) capped off her Senior Day in style, scoring the game-winning goal in the second quarter to help lift the No. 4 Kutztown University field hockey team (12-2, 4-1 PSAC) over No. 8 IUP (7-5, 2-3 PSAC) 2-0 at Andre Reed Stadium Saturday morning.
Dusman, along with Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), Olivia Blasone (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), and Abby Thorius (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) were honored pregame as the Golden Bears' performance lived up to the legacy those players have left at KU. Dotterweich posted her fourth shutout of the season and second one in as many games. Along with the goal, Dusman registered a season-high seven shots in the game.
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) earned the assist on Dusman's first goal. Freshman Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) scored her seventh goal of the campaign in the fourth quarter off the assist from Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), her tenth of the season.
IUP started the game more positively than the Golden Bears, but once KU found its footing, the Crimson Hawks struggled to grab a hold of the game. KU ended the game with a 20-10 shot advantage and 13-12 penalty corner advantage.
The Golden Bears improve to 4-1 in the PSAC this season and have defeated No. 2 Shippensburg, No. 10 Bloomsburg, and now No. 8 IUP in the last four games. KU's only loss to a ranked opponent came in overtime to No. 1 West Chester on Oct. 1.
KU is back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 26 against Millersville at Andre Reed Stadium. That game will start at 7 p.m.
