BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
Olivia Blasone (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) and
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) both scored second half goals as No. 4 Kutztown used a second half spurt to down No. 10 Bloomsburg 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Bloomsburg. It was the 100th victory at KU for head coach
Marci Scheuing.
Â
It was the fifth straight win for the Golden Bears (11-2 overall, 3-1 PSAC), who are now 5-1 in October.
Â
After a scoreless first half, Blasone, a captain, took it into her own hands and broke the deadlock in the 45th minute on a pass by Buchman, netting her seventh goal this season, second behind classmate and fellow captain
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), who has 12. Buchman then, a week after being named PSAC Athlete of the Week, doubled the Maroon and Gold total with her sixth of the year 5:41 into the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 2-0. Dusman assisted Buchman's goal and leads the PSAC with 31 points (12 goals, 7 assists).
Â
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) earned her third shutout in cage and finished with three saves. KU outshot Bloomsburg (7-6, 2-3) 19-4 overall, 16-3 on cage, and also held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Â
Kutztown returns home after a three-game road trip as it hosts No. 8 IUP this Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. It is senior day for the Golden Bears, who will honor Dusman, Blasone, Dotterweich and
Abby Thorius (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) prior to the contest.
