SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored a goal and added an assist to reach the 100 point career mark to help lead fourth-ranked Kutztown to its first road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory of the season, winning 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at second-ranked and defending national champion Shippensburg.
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York),
Olivia Blasone (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) and
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) each found the back of the cage for the Golden Bears (9-2 overall, 2-1 PSAC), who picked up their first ranked victory since defeating No. 5 Southern New Hampshire in the NCAA First Round on Nov. 16, 2019. The win for the Maroon and Gold also gave the Raiders (8-1, 2-1) their first loss since Nov. 5, 2019, a span of 28 straight games. It's the third consecutive win for KU, two in conference.
Dusman leads the PSAC in points with 24 (9 goals, 6 assists).
Kutztown recorded the first four goals of the game within the first 32:41, going up by a commanding 4-0 lead within the first three minutes of the third quarter. Craley scored the opening goal off Dusman's assist in the eighth minute from the far left side of the circle. In the second quarter, KU added two more. Blasone blasted home her sixth goal this season on a rebound with the assist credited to
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), the ninth on the year for the junior, which is tied for the top in the PSAC. Dusman then beat the Ship goalie 10:52 later following a pass by
Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and the Golden Bears found themselves ahead 3-0 at halftime.
Donato, usually the creator for teammates to score, took it herself and recorded her second goal this season 2:41 after the intermission to push the KU advantage to four goals. Craley assisted Donato's tally.
Not to be overshadowed by the four goal scorers, the Kutztown defense also came up big in the win.
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) tied a season-high with 10 saves. Dotterweich, along with the backline of Gatehouse,
Danielle Panati (West Chester, Pa./Unionville),
Alyssa Eager (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Sydney Stupka (New Cumberland, Pa./Red Land)Â kept a rapid Shippensburg offense at bay for the majority of the game. Ship outshot KU 18-8 overall and 12-7 on cage. The Raiders also had an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.
Kutztown remains on the road for its next game, traveling to take on Neumann on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.
