KU women’s soccer and Shippensburg battles to 1-1 draw in cold and wet conditions

KUTZTOWN, Pa.-- The Kutztown University women's soccer team (6-2-2, 5-2-2 PSAC East) battled to a 1-1 draw against Shippensburg (3-4-3, 3-3-3 PSAC East) in wet and cold conditions at Keystone Field Saturday afternoon.

Junior Allie Tierney (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) netted the second goal of her career in the 69th minute, which was canceled out by a Makayla Agosto equalizer in the 82nd minute. The Golden Bears dominated the majority of the contest, outshooting the Raiders 16-3, but struggled to find the finish in the final third.

The entire game was chippy, especially in the first half, as both teams struggled to break the game open and create any offense. Graduate student midfielder Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) registered the game's first shot on goal in the second minute, which was the only one of the half for both teams as it was tied 0-0 heading into the half.

The game opened up as the second half began. Sadie Goad (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had two early chances on the Raider's goal, but both shots went just wide. Another flurry came in the 61st minute, as Endres and Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) put two shots on the frame that were saved by Morgan Molyneaux.

KU was finally able to find a breakthrough eight minutes later. Argen picked up the ball at the top corner of the box and lofted a ball towards the back post. Tierney did a great job to find space behind her defender and got a foot on the ball, putting it past Molyneaux for the 1-0 lead.

In the final 15 minutes of the game, the rain and wind picked up, which caused the game to become a much more sloppy affair. Shippensburg was able to find the equalizer during that time, as a ball whipped in from a corner was knocked around the KU box, and eventually tapped home for the equalizer. That would be the last action of the game as the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

The Golden Bears are now unbeaten in their last three games. KU is back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 5, away at Shepherd. That game will kick off at 1 p.m.

KU is then back home next Saturday against East Stroudsburg for its annual Pink Game.
