SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. VA. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team (6-2-3, 5-2-3 PSAC EAST) tied Shepherd (4-4-4, 3-4-3 PSAC EAST) 1-1 down in West Virginia Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts took a lead 16 minutes into the contest through Lydia Gable, but the lead was erased three minutes later when Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) equalized off an assist from Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East). Argen now leads the team in goals with five and McDonald is tied for the team lead in assists with four.
The offensive flow of almost the entire game favored Kutztown after the goals. The Golden Bears outshot the Rams 18-6, with an 11-2 shot on goal advantage. KU also had 15 corners compared to Shepherd's three. Despite this, the Golden Bears struggled to find the finishing product and the game-winning goal.
Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) made one save in the contest for KU. Argen led the team with three shots on goal, while a whopping eight other Golden Bears registered a shot on goal. Shepherd shot stopper Alayna Burgamy kept her team in the contest, making ten saves for the Rams.
KU is now unbeaten in its last three games and has earned at least a point in five of the team's six away games this season.
The Golden Bears are back home this weekend for the team's annual Pink Game against East Stroudsburg. That game will kick off at 6 p.m. at Keystone Field.
