Regional Poll
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Winners of three games last week and nine in-a-row overall, the Kutztown University women's basketball team climbed the ladder and are ranked the highest they've been during the 2021-22 campaign, rising four spots to second in this week's D2SIDA Women's Basketball Atlantic Region Poll, released Monday.
The Golden Bears (15-3 overall, 8-1 PSAC) defeated Shippensburg (66-51) and Lock Haven (65-44) in PSAC East Division games last Monday and Wednesday respectively and concluded their week with a crossover victory against Mercyhurst (73-68) in overtime on Saturday.
The nine-game win streak is the second-longest win streak in program history. The 1971-72 team won 10 games in-a-row. KU is off to its best start to a season ever.
Glenville State (14-0) is undefeated and is the top team in the region. Following KU is Gannon (11-2), Seton Hill (12-4) and IUP (10-2) to round out the top-five. The rest of the top-10 includes California (8-2), Elizabeth City State (12-2), Lincoln (11-4), Shepherd (10-2) and Concord (12-4).
Kutztown sits on top of the East standings and will meet second place Bloomsburg (9-7, 7-3) on the road Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
