Winners of six straight, PSAC East leading Golden Bears are sixth in latest regional poll

Regional Poll

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team opened its 2022 portion of its schedule the way it ended 2021, by winning games. KU, on a six-game win streak, came out on top of both of its games last week, and has remained sixth in this week's D2SIDA Women's Basketball Atlantic Region Poll, released Monday.

The Golden Bears (12-3 overall, 5-1 PSAC) defeated West Chester, 64-53, in their opening Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game last Wednesday, Jan. 5. Three days later, KU traveled to the Poconos and downed East Stroudsburg, 58-40.

KU is off to its best start to a season since it went 13-3 during the 2008-09 campaign. The current six-game win streak is also the longest in program history since that same season.

Glenville State (12-0) is undefeated and is the top team in the region, followed by Gannon (10-1), Shepherd (10-1), IUP (10-1) and California (8-1), rounding out the top-five ahead of Kutztown. Seton Hill (10-4), Lincoln (9-3), Elizabeth City State (10-2) and Slippery Rock (10-3) complete the top-10. KU has victories over both Lincoln and Seton Hill this season.

Kutztown hosts Shippensburg tonight, Monday, Jan. 10, at 5:30 p.m.
