LEESBURG, Va. -- Savanna Harrison (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) picked the most opportune of times to score her second career goal.
With time winding down in Sunday's match against Frostburg State, a free kick from the right side bounced around in the box before finding its way to Harrison who fired home a shot from just right off the penalty dot to beat Frostburg State, 2-1, at the buzzer.
The thrilling victory was Kutztown's second of the weekend, following a 1-0 double overtime triumph over Charleston (W.Va.) Friday night.
KU was forced to play from behind early after Toni Fiocco-Mizer's header off a Caroline Burton corner was ruled to have crossed the goal line in the eighth minute.
The Golden Bears (2-0) outshot Frostburg 5-3 in the first half, but could not come up with the equalizer until the 59th minute.
Brittany Arentz (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) was engaged in a 1-on-1 battled in the box when she was taken down, leading to a penalty kick for the Maroon and Gold. Senior captain
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) stepped up and converted to knot the game at one.
KU outplayed the Bobcats (1-1) for the majority of the game after ceding the early goal, playing a much more disciplined game with nearly half the fouls and carrying the possession.
For the second time in as many games, Kutztown appeared destined for overtime, but Harrison changed all of that.
Following a Bobcat foul in the final 10 seconds, Argen quickly set up a few feet from the right corner flag and lofted a ball into the six-yard box. It bounced around briefly before popping out to Harrison just right of the penalty dot. She wasted no time ripping a shot which looked to be redirected by a Frostburg defender en route to the top right corner as time expired. The entire team poured off the bench to mob Harrison and celebrate the win.
Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) drew her first career start in net for the Bears and made three saves in a winning effort. Kutztown outshot Frostburg 13-9 for the game.
The Golden Bears will make their long awaited home debut this Wednesday, Sept. 8, as they take on PSAC East opponent Millersville at 7 p.m.
