KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) got a deflection on a rocketed shot by
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) in the second minute of the second overtime Wednesday night as the seventh-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team outlasted ninth-ranked Bloomsburg University 1-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, top-10 showdown at Andre Reed Stadium.
It was the first victory over a ranked opponent this season for the Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 2-0) who remained undefeated in the PSAC and have now won three games in-a-row.
Radel's goal, her second on the year, came off a penalty corner, the 10th of the game for KU, which held a 10-6 advantage over the Huskies (6-3, 1-1).
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) passed it to the top of the box to her sister, Alyssa, who ripped a shot towards cage. Radel was there to get a stick on it and slip it past Bloomsburg goalie, Abby Shaffer, for the winner.
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with three saves. Kutztown was outshot 8-7 overall, and Bloomsburg created more chances in the first overtime period, but Dotterweich,
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan),
Juliana Borisow (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) kept the ball out of the cage.
Kutztown will now hit the road for two games this weekend. KU will play Frostburg State on Friday night, followed by a game against Lindenwood. Both games will be played in Frostburg, Md.
