KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Melissa Ulrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career, and it was a big one, as fourth-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer defeated Shippensburg 1-0 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game at Keystone Field.
The Golden Bears (6-0 overall, 4-0 PSAC) have a sense of the dramatic as five of their six straight wins have come by just one goal.
The Raiders (2-4-1, 2-2-1) had their chances at tying or even then taking a lead, but the Kutztown defense once again held firm. KU has allowed just two goals through six games, tied for first in the conference.
Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) finished with one save and her defense in front of her, consisting of a starting back line of
Kylee MacLeod (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts),
Molly McHarg (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford),
Dana Wentz (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and
Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), kept the Shippensburg offense at bay, allowing just one shot on goal.
Kutztown will hit the road for two consecutive games, starting with Wednesday night at Bloomsburg. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
