Kutztown’s three-match win streak ends in defeat to East Stroudsburg in PSAC play

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team was on a hot streak. KU had won three matches in-a-row before falling in four sets to East Stroudsburg University Friday night in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division opener for both teams.

The Golden Bears (4-7 overall, 0-1 PSAC East) fell by scores of 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 19-25. They entered Friday winners of three straight, including victories over non-conference foes in Chestnut Hill, Salem and Georgian Court, all last week.

The first match was a wild, back-and-forth affair that featured 12 ties and eight lead changes. KU found itself ahead 23-22, but the Warriors (4-7, 1-0) scored three straight points to win the opener. Kutztown also held two separate three-point leads of 18-15 and 19-16.

East Stroudsburg took a 10-9 advantage in the second set and turned it into 19-10 in a matter of 10 set points to take control. The Maroon and Gold erased a late deficit in the third set, behind 17-15 to score 10 of the last 12 points to win their first set of the match. The Warriors led from start to finish in the final set and were never really threatened on their way to the match victory.
