KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) earned the lone point for the Kutztown University women's tennis team, Saturday, as it opened its 2021-22 season with a 6-1 defeat against Jefferson at the Keystone Courts.
Wendling's 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory over the Rams' Lauren Schuler at sixth singles marked the first regulation win of her career. The Kutztown native picked up a forfeit win at Shepherd last April, but showed that she may be counted on as a bigger part of the Golden Bears' (0-1) lineup this season.
Jefferson (2-1) captured the five remaining singles matches in straight sets, while winning all three doubles matches convincingly.
Bears No. 1 singles and doubles entry
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) competed hard all afternoon. Makarski and
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) took two games off Nicole Hrbkova and Manni Zhang in doubles, before the junior from Garfield, N.J., won three games in a 6-2, 6-1 singles loss to Hrbkova.
