Game Recap: Field Hockey | | C.J. Hemerly, Assistant Sports Information Director

No. 5 Kutztown Field Hockey upended by No. 7 East Stroudsburg in overtime Tuesday

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) scored her Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-leading seventh goal of the season in the 12th minute, but No. 7 East Stroudsburg quickly answered and then scored the game winner 2:14 into overtime to take down No. 5 Kutztown 2-1 Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Andre Reed Stadium.

It was the first loss of the season for the Golden Bears (3-1 overall), who had won the first three games of the year.

Sophomore Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) passed a penalty corner to Donato at the top of the key and the graduate student ripped a shot that beat Amy Supey for the game's first goal 11:01 into the contest. Just 3:12 later, the Warriors (3-2) responded with a goal of their own off a penalty corner as Nicole Krozser found the back of the cage off a pass by Morgan Mesenbrink to tie the score at 1-1.

The teams would threaten on cage for the next three quarters (45 minutes), but to no avail, as overtime was necessary in deciding the game between the last PSAC championship game qualifiers.

With the condensed lineups in overtime, going to 7-on-7, the field becomes wide open. It took just 2:14 into overtime before ESU found a winner by Lia Parker.

East Stroudsburg outshot Kutztown 9-8 overall and 7-6 on goal, and also held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners. Senior Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with five saves for KU, as did ESU starter Supey.

Kutztown hosts Mount Olive on Friday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., from Andre Reed Stadium.
