Three first half goals enough as No. 5 KU Field Hockey downs Mansfield Saturday

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team played in its first game in Andre Reed Stadium since Nov. of 2019, and KU once again protected its house as three first half goals held court to take down visiting Mansfield University 3-1 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.

The Golden Bears (3-0 overall) remained unbeaten and received goals from Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional), all within the opening 30 minutes of play. Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) assisted on two of the three tallies for KU, only couldn't add the third because of her sister Alyssa's goal coming via a penalty stroke.

Kutztown gave the Mounties (3-1) its first defeat on the season.

KU outshot Mansfield 16-4 overall and 10-2 on goal, while finishing with a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with one save and earned the victory in the cage. The Maroon and Gold defense, led by Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Juliana Borisow (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) controlled the action on their third of the field for a majority of the contest.

Kutztown will host nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg University in another non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., from Andre Reed Stadium.
