Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 1 seed, Kutztown University softball team held a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning, but third-seeded West Chester University scored seven unanswered over the next four innings to win game one, 8-2, in the best-of-three series in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference semifinals Sunday at North Campus Field.

Game two, which was scheduled to take place following the opener Sunday, was postponed due to rain. Game two will be made up tomorrow, Monday, May 10, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. If game three is necessary, that will be played following game two.

The Golden Bears (31-12 overall) had their win streak snapped at seven games-in-a-row. Their last loss also came at the hands of the Golden Rams (27-13), 2-0, back on April 23. KU took the regular season series 3-1.

Senior
Jenna Lipowski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area), who shared the team-lead in hits on the day at two with junior
Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), got the scoring going in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout that brought home classmate
Hannah Auvil (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) for the early 1-0 advantage.

West Chester answered in its ensuing at-bats. Jamie Klemas led off the second with a double, advanced to third on a groundout, and then touched home after a wild pitch to even the score.

Ostaszewski and Lipowski combined to put KU back out in front in the bottom of the third inning. Ostaszewski singled to center field to begin the frame and then advanced to second on a wild pitch the ensuing batter. With two outs, Lipowski drove her in with a single down the left field line and a 2-1 edge to Kutztown.

The Golden Rams, however, had their bats wake up from the fourth inning on. Totaling just three hits and one run through the first three innings of play, they recorded 13 hits and seven runs in the final four innings. West Chester scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and added another in the seventh.

Sophomore
Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union), who earned her 10th victory on the year in her last outing last Thursday in the PSAC quarterfinals against East Stroudsburg University, went six innings, allowing three earned runs. The Kutztown defense committed three errors and each one led to a Golden Rams run.
