SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team held a 7-6 lead at halftime, but Shepherd University outscored KU 12-5 in the deciding second half to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game Tuesday afternoon at Ram Stadium.

The Golden Bears (1-7 overall, 1-6 PSAC) got a goal from freshman midfielder
Emma Meakim (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) with 7:02 left in the first half to take a 7-5 advantage. But the Rams (3-4, 3-4) would go on to score five of the next six goals, taking the lead for good (9-8) at the 20:41 mark in the second half.

Kutztown got to within two goals, 14-12, thanks to a goal by
Cyrose Conteh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), her third, with 3:22 remaining, but Shepherd netted four straight to stop the comeback attempt.

Conteh and sophomore classmate
Morgan Hurd (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) each finished with three goals to lead the Maroon and Gold. Hurd added an assist to her total for a team-high four points on the day. Meakim and classmate
Shannon Lake (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) both tallied two goals, and
Devon Fitzpatrick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and
Alexis Sigillo (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) recorded one a piece.

Shepherd opened the game with three consecutive goals in a span of 1:43. KU responded with a 5-0 run in the middle of the half with two goals from Lake and one each from Hurd, Fitzpatrick and Meakim, to take a 5-3 lead. The teams traded two goals each with Meakim's being the last tally until Shepherd's Maggie Luzier found the back of the net with 0:44 to go in the half as the teams went into intermission with Kutztown out in front 7-6.

After a two-game road trip, its longest so far this season, Kutztown returns to Keystone Field to host Bloomsburg University next Wednesday, April 14, beginning at 4 p.m.
