WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team scored the game's opening goal 2:33 in, but fourth-ranked West Chester University scored 11 of the next 12 in the half to defeat KU 21-3 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division matchup.
The Golden Rams (6-0 overall, 6-0 PSAC) remained undefeated, while the Golden Bears (1-6, 1-5) lost their third straight game.
It was the second game in-a-row that Kutztown went toe-to-toe with a nationally-ranked PSAC opponent, dropping its last contest to 12th-ranked East Stroudsburg last Wednesday evening.
Similar to the Warriors in that game, West Chester erupted for double-digit goals in each half. After senior
Allie McCormick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) recorded the first goal of the game, 2:33 after the opening whistle, the Golden Rams went on an 11-1 scoring run to head into halftime leading 11-2. West Chester kept its scoring streak moving into the second half, opening the half with a goal 1:56 in to take a double-figure lead at 12-2 and never looked back.
Senior
Devon Fitzpatrick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), who assisted on McCormick's opening goal, added a goal of her own with 6:31 off the clock in the first half that tied the game 2-2 at the time, before West Chester netted 10 in-a-row to close out the half.
Cyrose Conteh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), who led the team with three shots on goal, rounded out the scoring for the Maroon and Gold with a second half goal. Bisesi had a team-high three ground balls. Fitzpatrick, Conteh and McCormick were all tied with winning two draw controls each.
Kutztown remains on the road for its next contest, as it will travel to Shepherd University for a PSAC East Division game on Tuesday, April 6, beginning at 4 p.m. KU will look to get the better of the Rams after falling by one goal on a last second shot in the season-opener on March 10.
