PHILADELPHIA -- Jefferson got off to a quick start and never relented in a 7-0 win over the Kutztown University women's tennis team indoors Monday afternoon at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.
The Rams (4-2) posted resolute victories over the Bears at second and third doubles by 6-1 and 6-0 scores, before their No. 1 team of Eryn Nguyen and Manni Zhang completed the sweep with a tiebreaker win over the Bears'
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and Catherin Maher.
Kutztown played a number of close sets in singles, but never found a way to crack Jefferson's hold on the match.
Elyssa Tomczyk (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) came closest, taking her second set with Elisa Hardeski to a tiebreaker. Hardeski prevailed 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the No. 6 match, though.
No. 2 Makarski, No. 3 Maher and No. 5
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) all won four games for the Maroon and Gold (2-4) in the second set of their respective matches.
The Golden Bears will return to PSAC East play, Saturday, when they travel to West Virginia to take on Shepherd at 1 p.m.
