Softball sweeps Nyack Tuesday to continue roll

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team swept Nyack College in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at North Campus Field by scores of 11-0 and 9-0. Both games were ended in five innings.

The Golden Bears (11-3 overall, 8-2 PSAC) continued to roll along. They have now won eight straight games and 11-of-their-last-12 overall.

The Kutztown offense combined for 20 hits and made quick work of the Warriors (0-4). Freshman Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) had arguably her best day at the plate in Maroon and Gold. Hughes finished with four hits in five at-bats, all four were extra base-hits (two triples and two homeruns). She also had a season-high six RBIs in the opener.

Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tallied three hits on the day, including the 100th of her career in game two. The junior also contributed three RBIs. Zoe Texidor (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), Mya Zettlemoyer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Maddie Fraley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) all had two hits. Cameryn Feathers (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) connected on a pinch-hit, two-run homerun in the nightcap, the first of her career.

Bridget Bailey (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) and Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) combined for a three-hit shutout in the opener. Bailey, the reigning two-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, is now 6-0 on the season, tied for the league lead in wins. Amber Brugger (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) started game two and went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out five for her second victory on the year.

Kutztown returns to conference play with two games at Lock Haven University tomorrow, Wednesday, March 24. First game is set to start at 2 p.m. KU took two from the Bald Eagles back on March 12, but weather postponed rescheduled dates twice.
