Kutztown 7, Morgan State 2
Â
It took awhile to get things going offensively for both teams. Morgan State was playing its first game of the 2021 campaign, and KU got off the bus after a three-hour ride.
Â
After four scoreless innings, Kutztown broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth. The Golden Bears had their first five batters reach base safely. Ostaszewski led off the frame with a single, followed by a double from Auvil. Hughes then singled into left, bringing around Ostaszewski for a 1-0 lead. After a walk to
Jenna Lipowski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area), Donato stepped up and ripped a three-run double that sent the lead to 4-0.
Â
The Bears got onto the scoreboard with a run in the bottom-half of the fifth, and then Kutztown struck again. Four straight batters got on, highlighted by back-to-back singles from Ostaszewski and Auvil, before Hughes doubled in two runs and a 7-1 advantage.
Â
Bailey worked around a leadoff single in the seventh to sit the Bears down in order after Donato recorded an unassisted double play to finish off the game.
