KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy (N.J.)) has had a strong start to the 2021-22 season on both ends of the court. His defensive effort in Sunday's victory at Goldey-Beacom not only helped the Kutztown University men's basketball team pull off a road win, but also led the graduate student to earn this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Defensive Athlete of the Week.
 
Williams came up with an important defensive play with under one minute left that helped KU break a tie and earn the victory over the Lightning in the Golden Bears (2-3 overall) lone game of the week. With the score tied 72-72 with just under one minute to play, Williams grabbed a defensive rebound and was then fouled, connecting on both free-throws to give his team a two-point lead, one which held for the final few seconds. Williams finished with a double-double and was four assists shy of a triple-double, five blocks short of a quadruple-double. Playing in his home state of Delaware, Williams stuffed the stat sheet, tallying 13 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and a career-high five blocks in 34 minutes of action.
 
Williams ranks second in the PSAC and first in the East Division in blocks per game with 2.8. He has 11 blocks on the year and is averaging 12.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game, 15th-best in the conference. Williams also averages 3.8 assists per game, which ranks 11th in the PSAC.
 
It is the first PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honor for Williams, who earned the East Freshman of the Year award after the 2017-18 season.
 
Kutztown begins its portion of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition with two games in two nights next weekend, both at Keystone Arena. KU hosts nationally-ranked IUP on Friday, Dec. 3, and then Seton Hill the following Saturday. Both tip-offs are set for 7:30 p.m.
