KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team went on a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pull away and secure the 60-49 win over Adelphi University on Wednesday evening non-conference action inside Keystone Arena.
Both teams lived beyond the arc tonight, putting up 40 shots from three-point territory in the competition.
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made three of the Golden Bears six three pointers on the night, scoring a team-high 17 points in the competition.
The Golden Bears found themselves trailing by seven after the first quarter, the Panther offense ended the quarter with an 8-0 run. The Maroon and Gold came back swinging in the second quarter, only allowing their opponents three more points before half. Kutztown scored 18 points in the quarter swinging the momentum back there way.
Kutztown's lead would only continue to grow throughout the remainder of the game outscoring the Panthers 29-26 in the second half.
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) was a spark for the Golden Bears in the second quarter, coming off the bench to score four points, grab three rebounds, and a steal in that quarter alone.
The Golden Bear defense was a highlight in this match, Kutztown manged to tally up thirteen steals against the Panther offense.
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) led the defensive effort with five takeaways of her own, while adding 11 points.
Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) also had 11 points for KU.
Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) finished with seven points, four rebounds and four assists, while
Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) contributed four points, four rebounds, three steals and one block.
The Maroon and Gold improve to 4-2 on the season as Adelphi drops to 0-2 on the season. The Golden Bears will be back in action this Saturday, Nov. 20th, as they take on the Jefferson University Rams at 1:00 p.m., back at Keystone Arena.
