Jim Clements voted PSAC East Coach of the Year, 13 Golden Bears earn All-PSAC honors

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – For the second straight season, head coach Jim Clements of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion and 12th-ranked Kutztown University football team was voted the PSAC East Division Coach of the Year, and 13 Golden Bear student-athletes received All-PSAC honors, announced by the league office Tuesday.

Earning All-PSAC First Team includes offensive lineman Albert Glasgow (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Devin Hannan (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon), wide receiver Jerome Kapp (Barto, Pa./Boyertown), defensive lineman Ryan Meyers (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley), linebacker Amani Justice (Salem, N.J./Salem), defensive back Nick Palmer (Montville, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and punter Dean Krcic (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley). The Second Teamers include running back Darryl Davis-McNeil (Roslyn, Pa./Abington), offensive lineman Luke Lozowicki (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), linebackers Chris Thomas (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) and Tyler Whary (Hereford, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and defensive backs Antaun Lloyd (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and Shawn Turber-Ortiz (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy).

It is the third PSAC Coach of the Year award and second in-a-row for Clements, who is in his seventh season in charge of the Golden Bears. He has become one of the most successful coaches in program history, holding a 58-21 overall record, three wins shy of tying George Baldwin for the program's winningest coach. Clements has achieved winning seasons in each of his seven seasons, the first KU head coach in program history to open his career with consecutive winning seasons. He has taken the program to new heights the last decade, bringing KU back to the NCAA Tournament in both 2018 and 2019 for the third and fourth times in school history, along with this season. Kutztown also won the program's second PSAC championship in its history.

Krcic and Turber-Ortiz are both three-time All-PSAC performers, while both Thomas and Palmer earned their second All-PSAC recognition.

Glasgow, Hannan and Lozowicki are staples in the KU offensive line that has helped pave the way for a rushing attack that ranks second in the PSAC at 198 yards per game. Kutztown also ranks fifth in total offense with 381 yards per game, scoring 26.5 points per game.

Kapp is a team captain and received his first all-conference recognition. He has become a go-to wide receiver in the offense with big-play ability; his 84-yard touchdown reception in the PSAC Championship game was the first score of the game. Kapp has 37 catches for 758 yards and eight TDs (fifth in the PSAC). He ranks 10th in the conference in reception yards per game with 68.9.

Meyers is a team captain and does a lot of the dirty work along the defensive line each game. He ranks second on the team with five sacks and is third with nine tackles for loss. Meyers has 23 tackles and three quarterback hurries this season.

Justice is seemingly always around the football in the middle of the defense. He is tied for eighth in the PSAC with 87 tackles and has added 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack for the KU defense that ranks sixth in Division II, allowing just 76.6 rushing yards a game and ninth in scoring defense, giving up just under 14 points per game.

Palmer is a ball hawk in the back end of the defense. He ranks fifth on KU with 43 tackles and has two interceptions and three pass breakups for Kutztown, which is sixth in the PSAC, allowing 191 yards through the air.

Krcic has proven to be one of the best punters in the nation this season. His 42.9 yards per punt is first in the conference. Krcic has punted 49 times for 2,113 yards and has 177 punts for 7,421 yards in his career, fourth-most in program history. He has been voted East Division Special Teams Athlete of the Week twice this season.

In a stable of good backs this season, Davis-McNeil is one of five running backs to get at least 30 carries. He has totaled 78 rushes for 512 yards and five TDs, while adding eight receptions for 59 yards.

Thomas has been one of the more reliable veterans of the defensive unit. He is a three-year starter at linebacker and ranks third on the team with 48 tackles, while adding 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception, coming against the Rock in the PSAC Championship game.

Whary has had a breakout season to date, recording career-highs in tackles (65), tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (4.5). The TFLs lead KU, while he ranks second in tackles and third in sacks. Whary also has four quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Lloyd is a lockdown defender in 2021 with not many receivers finding success running routes against him. He has four interceptions, which is tied for second-best in the PSAC, and also ranks fifth with 12 passes defended (eight breakups, four interceptions). Lloyd also has 37 tackles on the year and was a two-time Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Turber-Ortiz is a regular on the postseason accolades, earning his third all-conference honor. This season, he has 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception and three pass breakups. For his career, Turber-Ortiz ranks 10th all-time in program history with 286 tackles and is tied for sixth with 14 interceptions.

Kutztown earned the No. 1 seed in Super Region One and received a First-Round bye and will face the winner of an all Northeast-10 Conference matchup between No. 4 seed New Haven and Bentley in the Second Round on Saturday, Nov. 27, at Andre Reed Stadium.
