KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior running back
Jeremiah Nelson (Jamaica, N.Y./Holy Cross) and redshirt junior defensive back
Justin Harris (Deptford, N.J./Salem) had a big hand in 16th-ranked Kutztown University football's 38-32 victory over No. 10 Slippery Rock last Saturday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship game. The duo's performances Saturday didn't go unnoticed, as the league office voted Nelson the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week and Harris the Defensive Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon.
Â
It is the first weekly award for both Golden Bear players.
Â
Nelson rushed for a career-high 223 yards and two touchdowns on route to earning the PSAC Championship Game's MVP award. Nelson was outstanding averaging 9.7 yards per carry and broke free a couple of times for a few long runs. Perhaps one of his best carries of the game was his 68-yard gainer in which he dragged a Rock defender into the end zone from five yards out.
Â
Harris was equally impressive, coming up huge for the Golden Bears defense when they needed it most. Harris finished the game with a season-high five total tackles and two interceptions, including one with 6:50 left to play in the first half in the end zone with one hand to end a possible scoring drive for Slippery Rock.
Â
Kutztown has a 10-1 overall record and earned its second overall PSAC championship. KU received the top seed in Super Region I and will have a bye into the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Bears will host the winner of New Haven and Bentley next Saturday, Nov. 27, at Andre Reed Stadium.
