INDIANAPOLIS -- The 16th-ranked Kutztown University football team captured Super Region One's top seed when the Division II Football Committee announced the 28-team NCAA DII Championship field Sunday evening.

The Golden Bears, champions of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), receive a first round bye and will face the winner of an all Northeast-10 Conference matchup between No. 4 seed New Haven and Bentley in the second round on Saturday, Nov. 27, at Andre Reed Stadium. On the bottom half of the regional bracket, No. 2 Shepherd hosts Findlay and No. 3 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) welcomes Slippery Rock in first round games, Nov. 20. The Shepherd/Findlay and Notre Dame/Slippery Rock winners will meet Nov. 27 on the campus of the highest remaining seed.

Kutztown (10-1) is making its third straight appearance in the NCAA DII playoffs and fifth in program history (2021, 2019, 2018, 2011, 2010). The only other time the Golden Bears entered the postseason as Super Region One's top seed was in 2010 when they made their NCAA Championship debut. KU advanced to the second round in 2011 and 2019, but a win on Nov. 27 would elevate the Maroon and Gold into the regional title game (national quarterfinals) for the first time in school history.

The Golden Bears secured their second straight 10-win season with Saturday's 38-32 win over 10th-ranked Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship game. It marked the program's second conference crown --on the 10-year anniversary of its first in 2011-- and the second time KU has achieved back-to-back 10-win seasons (2010 and 2011). Kutztown is one victory shy of matching the school record for wins in a season, having gone 11-2 in 2011 and 2019.

The PSAC led all conferences with three selections in the region, while the Northeast-10 got two teams in. The Mountain East Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference each received one bid.
