LINCOLN, Pa. - Strong offensive performances by
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) provide the Kutztown University women's basketball team with just enough offense to defeat Lincoln 77-74 Saturday afternoon in the final game of the PSAC/CIAA Challenge.
The Golden Bears (3-2 overall) jumped out to an early 22-9 lead in the first quarter and had to fight tol hold on until the end, being out scored 65-55 in the last three quarters in the game.
Derr and Remolde led the Maroon and Gold offensive efforts. Derr helped the team jump out to an early lead making three shots from behind the arc in the first quarter. The senior guard would finish the game with 22 points. Remolde added 20 of her own shooting a perfect 6-6 from the foul line.
After falling behind 22-9, the Lions would try to claw back the next three quarters to complete the comeback. Almost completing it, coming back to one point with only six seconds remaining but ultimately falling short. Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) sank two free throws with three seconds remaining in the competition to finally put away Lincoln.
The Lion's offense was led by Byanna Brown, scoring 21 points in the game and 10 in the fourth quarter alone. The senior guard was a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line and added five rebounds and two steals to the stat sheet.
The Golden Bears finished the CIAA/PSAC challenge with two wins on the weekend, improving to 3-2 on the year. Kutztown will have its first home game this season on Wednesday, Nov. 17th, at 6 p.m. against Adelphi University.
