LINCOLN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team got back in the win column after taking down Shaw University 66-52 Friday night in the PSAC/CIAA Challenge at Lincoln University. The Golden Bears improve to 2-3 on the season in their first action since returning from their trip to Montana.
Kutztown started off the game strong taking a 20-7 lead after the first quarter, and lead 31-24 heading into half.
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) led the team in scoring, with eight of her 15 points in the first half.
The Shaw offense showed its strength, outscoring Kutztown by 14 in the paint, but the Golden Bears benefited, scoring 18 points from behind the arc.
Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Derr both made multiple three point attempts.
The Golden Bear bench had another strong performance, outscoring the opponent bench 28- 13. Freshman forward,
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had 11 points in her efforts off the bench.
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and
Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) made an impact on the defensive side of the ball, both with two steals in the game. Remolde added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks to her stat line.
Kutztown is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, against CIAA / PSAC Challenge host Lincoln University at 6:00 PM.
